A Word about WORDS
Words is the Peel Literacy Guild's newsletter. WORDS has a broad audience. It is distributed to learners, tutors, donors, community agencies, such as libraries, and community leaders. We also use our newsletter in our public awareness, volunteer recruitment and fundraising activities. We hope that reading WORDS gives information, entertainment and helps everyone who receives it to feel connected to the Guild.
Because WORDS has such a broad audience with different information needs, not all the newsletter is at a readable level for our basic learners. When working with learners, tutors are encouraged to ask them if they would to have some of the articles and stories read to them. This allows learners to find out about other learners' ideas and experiences as well as keeping them up-to-date with what is happening at our learning centres.
We encourage tutors and learners to play an active role in WORDS because it is their newsletter. Most learners take great pride in seeing their work published in our newsletter and tutor tips, ideas and strategies may help other tutors to increase their effectiveness. For those very important reasons, we urge both tutors and learners to share their writing with us. If anyone conttributing to the newsletter does not wish to have their name printed, we will gladly work with them to ensure that privacy is respected.
